Vascular Lesions
Congenital vascular lesions involving the head and neck can be a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma. They are often misdiagnosed and improperly treated. Most vascular malformations do not regress but grow as the patient grows and create many problems. They can even be life threatening. At UAMS and our affiliated Arkansas Children's Hospital we have pioneered many of the surgical treatments used today. Our team has successfully treated some of the most challenging and difficult cases seen with patients referred from all over the U.S. and foreign countries. The team consists of our surgeons, diagnostic and interventional radiologists, our nurses and pathologists.

Endocrine Surgery
Endocrine surgery is one of the specialties of the head and neck surgeon and includes thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, and in some cases trans-nasal pituitary surgery. At UAMS we offer comprehensive management of thyroid and parathyroid conditions. With a team of two endocrinologists, four surgeons and several expert pathologists, we are able to offer the latest diagnosis and treatment for benign and malignant thyroid disease. Many clinical protocols are available to patients suffering from aggressive and recurrent thyroid cancers. We offer minimally invasive radio-guided parathyroidectomy which, for the majority of patients suffering from primary hyperthyroidism, allows for less invasive out-patient surgery through a smaller incision.

Reconstruction
One of the greatest challenges of performing head and neck surgery involves performing reconstruction of the altered anatomy following head and neck surgery. The approach to head and neck reconstruction employs the use of local and regional tissue as well as an increasing dependence on micro-vascular free tissue transfer. These tissue reconstructions are often done in conjunction with fabrication of prosthetic appliances that allow for a holistic approach to the restoration of form and function after head and neck surgery.
